With Australia Day (my favourite public holiday) just around the corner here are a few tips to a great Aussie Barbie.
- Preheat
The barbie needs to be nice and hot before you put the meat on, if it doesn’t sizzle then the plate isn’t ready. By preheating property it will give a great seal so those juices stay in. - Don’t cook cold meat
You want to bring your meat back to room temperature before you chuck it on the Barbie. This way it won’t burn on the outside trying to heat the inside up. - No poking
Don’t poke or prod your meat, you only want to turn meat once or twice, if you are constantly flipping the meat the nice seal we talked about in point 1. won’t form properly and your juices will go to waste leaving your meat all dry. - Rest is best
You need to rest you meat, sometime you wonder why all the juices are running around you plate – well thats what happens when you haven’t rested your meat. By resting the meat it allow the fibres to cool and the fibres will soak in all those juices keeping the meat juicy and delicious. - Hygiene
Always out your cooked food on a clean plate or board – never place it on a dirty tray or back in the marinade after it has been cooked. Thats a big no no. - Clean your Barbie
If you don’t clean your barbie after every use the grill and plates will rust and you will attract all kinds of nasty creatures who will feed as soon as you turn around.
