Guinea Pigs are very gentle rodents actually make great pets for kids. They rarely bite, they love to play hide and seek, and they’ll squeak with excitement when their humans put in an appearance.
Since they prefer to live in groups, consider adopting two female guinea pigs. (Two males will be prone to fighting, unless they come from the same litter, and a male/female pair will result in lots of tiny guinea pigs.)
They come in several colours and patterns, and can have short or long hair.

Feeding: Commercial pellets, prairie hay, fresh vegetables and water; daily dose of vitamin C
Housing and Exercise: Guinea pigs need lots of exercise. Pet retailers sell portable enclosures in which your guinea pig can safely explore an indoor or outdoor environment. You can add pipes for your pet to run through or offer hiding places like small boxes.
